Milwaukee has experienced a spate of gunfire incidents within a brief timespan last night, leading into early this morning. The series of events, which spanned across various neighborhoods, resulted in four individuals being shot, in what seemingly were separate and unrelated occurrences. As referenced by WISN, the violence began near 51st and Center streets at approximately 11:30 p.m., leaving a 24-year-old and a 21-year-old wounded.
Simultaneously, a 32-year-old became yet another victim of gunfire near 13th Street and Atkinson Avenue. Shortly after these incidents, roughly 30 minutes later, gunfire rang out near Green Bay Avenue and Fiebrantz Avenue, where a 25-year-old was shot, CBS 58 reports. Law enforcement officials have yet to make arrests in any of the shootings, and they are urging anyone with information to come forward to aid the ongoing investigations.
Further compounding the city's woes, another shooting transpired around 1:37 a.m. near 84th and Herbert, which turned fatal for a 25-year-old man identified as Nick Thacker. According to a FOX6 News interview, the victim's girlfriend recounted a dispute over Thacker's vehicle preceding the shooting. In her words, "Somebody tried to steal his car, when he spoke out his window to tell them to move around, they shot." She poignantly added, "Put the guns down, it gets worse and worse and worse every year, bro I’m tired."
All injured individuals, aside from the deceased Thacker, are expected to survive their wounds. This surge in incidents underscores a troubling trend in Milwaukee, with police data indicating a stark 65% rise in non-fatal shootings since May 1 as compared to a 12-week period before, as WISN highlights. The circumstances leading up to each incidence, remain under investigation and the police are continuing their search for suspects.
