The city of Milwaukee is buzzing with excitement as Bronzeville Week returns for its 15th installment, commencing on August 2 and concluding on August 9. Alderwoman Milele A. Coggs, the mastermind behind the cultural extravaganza, has unveiled a lineup that blends traditional favorites with fresh, innovative events aimed to celebrate the historical neighborhood.
Some of the classic crowd-pleasers making a comeback this year include The HaRUNbee 5K Run/Walk for Healthy Birth Outcomes, igniting the district with communal vigor August 2, and the Bronzeville Cultural & Arts Festival breathing life into the streets with colors and sounds on August 3. The week reaches its educational crescendo during the Bronzeville Sleepover for Education on August 8, as locals gather to emphasize the power of knowledge. Capping off the festivities is the Crowned in Color Bronzeville Art Walk on August 9, which promises a visual feast for art enthusiasts.
New to the scene is the Bronzeville Good Neighbor Block Party scheduled for August 6, an event anticipated to foster community kinship and celebrate the spirit of neighborliness. Reflecting on historical depths and peeking into tomorrow, "Echoes of Bronzeville, Voices of the Past, Voices of the Future" will provide a narrative continuum on August 7, engaging participants with tales old and new. Additionally, budding actors get a dash of Hollywood as "From Script to Screen: An Acting Workshop with Rotimi," famed for his roles in "Power" and "The Chi," unfolds on August 8.
Alderwoman Coggs shared her enthusiasm about the week's lineup, stating, "In 2025 we are celebrating the 15th year of Bronzeville Week, and with this year’s celebration comes a variety of returning events, as well as new offerings that include a look at Bronzeville’s past in addition to its future," according to a press release on the City of Milwaukee website. Coggs continued, expressing her hopes for widespread community engagement and participation in the week-long celebration of culture and heritage.
