In a turn of events that brought relief to a community in Jacksonville, the local sheriff's office has reported the safe location of Travis McCrimager Jr., a 16-year-old who went missing early Sunday morning. Jacksonville Sheriff's Office took to social media to express their gratitude, stating, "UPDATE: Travis has been safely located. Thank you to everyone who helped us get the word out."
Prior to this recent update, concern grew after the family of Travis notified authorities of his disappearance. The teen reportedly left his home on the northwest side of the city and had been gone since around 3 a.m., according to the original post by Jacksonville Sheriff's Office. Standing 6 feet tall with brown eyes and black hair in twists, Travis was last seen wearing a grey hoodie, camo shorts, and black Crocs. His autism diagnosis added urgency to the search efforts.
Law enforcement officers and volunteers worked tirelessly to locate Travis as swiftly as possible, understanding the particular vulnerabilities associated with his condition. Though the specifics of how Travis was found have not been disclosed, the success of the search is likely attributed to the widespread sharing of his information, and the collaboration between the sheriff's office, local residents, and perhaps, even beyond the immediate community. "We’ve been told Travis has been diagnosed with Autism; we are working hard to locate him and bring him home safely," Jacksonville Sheriff's Office had stated earlier during the search.
