The Milwaukee community breathed a collective sigh of relief after the Milwaukee Police Department confirmed that 13-year-old Jamyla Norwood, previously reported as critically missing, has been located and is confirmed to be in "good health." Jamyla was last seen in the area of North 24th and West Burleigh Street last Monday, as reported by the Journal Sentinel.
Following disturbing communications received by Jamyla's mother last Monday, which included multiple text messages from unknown numbers claiming that her daughter was dead and a phone call where threats of violence against Jamyla were overhead before the call disconnected abruptly, the case prompted police to consider her critically missing. In a statement obtained by Fox 6, Jamyla's mother believed "she is in danger" after the chilling incidents, heightening the urgency of the police investigation.
Jamyla, described as a female, Black, standing at 5’3" and weighing around 120 pounds, was last seen wearing a pink bonnet, a black T-shirt, blue jean pants, and yellow and black shoes. As reported by Fox 6, authorities noted that the teenager did not possess any money or means of transportation, leading them to believe she would be traveling on foot.
Late yesterday, a brief yet welcomed update came through from police. Without offering specifics into the circumstances of her discovery, Milwaukee police simply stated Jamyla was found "in good health," a sign that the fears gripping her community had been somewhat alleviated. The concluding note of this concerning episode was a scant but profound statement - Jamyla was safe, as WISN echoed the news gleaned from police releases.
