The Metropolitan Police Department is urgently reaching out to residents for assistance in the wake of a recent firearms incident in Southeast Washington, D.C. In the early hours of Saturday, July 12, officers were dispatched to the 1200 block of G Street, Southeast, following reports of gunshots heard in the area. Upon arrival, they discovered evidence consistent with a shooting, though, fortunately, no injuries were reported.
In their investigation, police have managed to secure images from surveillance footage, showing the suspects involved in the incident. These images have now been circulated in an appeal to the public to help to identify the persons of interest. The suspects, photographed by cameras, are visible in the photos that have been released and can be viewed here.
The nature of the crime - an unlawful discharge of a firearm - has roused concern among the community members, prompting the MPD to issue a call for vigilance and cooperation. Yet, the department has cautioned against any direct intervention, advising those with information on the suspects to avoid taking any immediate action, but rather to make contact with law enforcement directly. The Police Department maintains that the safety of the community is paramount and urges witnesses or those with knowledge of the incident to come forward.
An incentivized approach has been adopted by the MPD to encourage tips from the public, offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information that leads to the arrest and indictment of the responsible individuals. Those with information are recommended to not approach suspects but instead to call the police at (202) 727-9099 or to send a tip via text to the department's TEXT TIP LINE at 50411, highlighting the department's effort to ensure that the passage of crucial information remains as safe and accessible as possible for those aiding in the case.
