The Board of Supervisors has inked a $3.5 million agreement with the Napa Communities Firewise Foundation to increase wildfire resiliency through community outreach, defensible space consulting, and proactive mitigation measures. As per the county's announcement, these funds are earmarked for substantial on-the-ground work, from expanding roadside clearing for emergency access to establishing strategic fuel breaks.
The investment underscores Napa County's long-term vision for a wildfire-resilient future, as stated by the county's Chair of the Board of Supervisors, Anne Cottrell. "This agreement represents Napa County’s commitment to a wildfire-resilient future, and it supports important fuel-reduction projects," Cottrell emphasized. Moreover, the agreement will continue Napa County's Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP), a framework laying the groundwork for more informed, fire-safe communities.
Vital to this initiative are the planned vegetation treatment projects, including targeted grazing efforts to pare down fuel load and develop more viable access routes in an emergency. These strategies are designed to form a buffer zone—a line of defense between the roaring teeth of wildfires and human habitation. "This agreement ensures continuity for essential wildfire mitigation efforts that have significantly advanced Napa County’s fire resiliency over the past several years," Joe Nordlinger told Napa County officials.
