The Nevada Department of Transportation announced the substantial completion of the I-15 North Phase 3 Widening Project this week. A ribbon-cutting event was held near I-15 and Las Vegas Boulevard, attended by Lieutenant Governor Stavros Anthony, North Las Vegas Mayor Pamela Goynes-Brown, and other officials, as reported by the Nevada Department of Transportation.
A 10.7-mile stretch of I-15 in Southern Nevada has been expanded from four to six lanes to improve traffic flow and freight movement. The corridor, labeled a "Corridor of the Future" by the U.S. Department of Transportation in 2007, is a major route for trucks carrying over 92% of the region’s goods. According to the Nevada Department of Transportation, the project included wider lanes with 12-foot shoulders, upgraded bridges, more truck parking, Weigh-in-Motion sensors, improved drainage, 22 miles of desert tortoise fencing, and new lighting and landscaping.
“Widening our way forward means building infrastructure that works for today and for the future,” said Nevada Department of Transportation Director Tracy Larkin-Thomason during the announcement of the $83 million I-15 project. The project began in 2022 and has involved dozens of Nevada-based firms and supported hundreds of local jobs. Representatives from Las Vegas Paving and the Las Vegas Motor Speedway attended the event. This phase is part of Nevada Department of Transportation’s ongoing work to improve a major freight corridor in the region.
