The City of New Braunfels is set to hold a public hearing on August 5 to discuss updates to its Thoroughfare Plan, a master blueprint for roadway infrastructure tailored to anticipated growth. This framework does not detail immediate construction initiatives but rather sketches out the requirements for preserving future corridors to support the transportation network's enduring expansion, as reported by the City of New Braunfels.
In adherence to Article XI, Section 5 of the Texas Constitution, and Chapter 212 of the Texas Local Government Code the plan ensures that any development within the city and its surrounding jurisdiction aligns with New Braunfels' strategic vision for roads and highways. The blueprint outlines general right-of-way guidelines and projected road alignments, although these can be adjusted throughout the subdivision and design phases, as obtained by the City of New Braunfels.
According to an announcement on the City of New Braunfels official website, the current plan, which was adopted over a decade ago, on March 12, 2012, is undergoing revisions. These changes aim to reflect the realities of existing thoroughfares that have been recognized by the City Council, to remove roads that no longer contribute to growth plans, recalibrate paths to account for current and expected developments, and adjust rights-of-way within mature areas.
The final report will include mostly minor but important changes to help the city adapt to ongoing urban growth. It will also introduce updated street cross-sections. City staff will present the proposed changes, respond to public feedback from earlier meetings, and invite more input at the public hearing. The commission will review the updates and prepare a proposal for the City Council to consider, as per the City of New Braunfels.
