
A police officer was injured in an officer-involved shooting in North Las Vegas on Sunday afternoon. According to FOX5 Vegas, the incident occurred before 2 p.m. when officers were checking a suspicious vehicle outside the Maverik gas station at E. Tropical Parkway and Nicco Way. After a brief exchange, the suspect drove away, leaving behind a child who was injured in the process.
The North Las Vegas Police Department said, "The suspect did not leave the scene, and instead circled the parking lot and drove back toward where the officers were positioned," which led to one officer being hit by the vehicle, as reported by News 3 Las Vegas. An officer then fired his weapon. The suspect was arrested and taken to a hospital for gunshot wounds. A woman and children in the car were also taken to a hospital for evaluation. Their conditions have not been reported. This was the department’s second officer-involved shooting this year. The names of the officers involved will be released after 72 hours.
The officer sustained minor injuries and is in stable condition. The North Las Vegas Police Department is continuing to investigate the incident. The investigation will examine the suspect's actions leading up to the altercation and the situation inside the vehicle involving the woman and three children. The suspect’s condition after the shooting has not been made public.
