The NYPD is on the lookout for an individual connected to a grand larceny incident that occurred earlier this month in Brooklyn. According to the details provided by the NYPD Crimestoppers social media post, a 71-year-old woman fell victim to a scam that left her short of $230 in cash and approximately $900 worth of jewelry.
The incident took place on the afternoon of July 4, when the elderly victim was reportedly approached by the assailant as she entered her residence near 84 Street and 4 Avenue. The man offered to help her with her walker, which was the onset of a deceitful scheme. After the victim had entered her apartment, the suspect knocked on her door claiming he had arrived to fix a water leak. Once inside, he distracted the victim by instructing her to turn the water faucet on and off, while he rummaged through her belongings. It wasn't until the suspect had fled the scene on foot heading southbound on 4 Avenue that the theft was discovered.
The NYPD has made a public appeal for information regarding the suspect's whereabouts. Individuals with any relevant details pertaining to this incident—or the suspect—are encouraged to get in touch with law enforcement.
