In what is increasingly becoming an unfortunate reality on New York City's subways, an argument on a Brooklyn-bound "L" train escalated into a violent robbery earlier this month. The NYPD is now asking for the public's help in locating two individuals believed to be responsible for assaulting and robbing a 45-year-old woman as she traveled on the subway. The incident took place last Tuesday, just before 11:00 a.m., according to a post from NYPD Crimestoppers.
Reports indicate that the victim boarded the northbound train at the Canarsie Rockaway Parkway station within the confines of the NYPD's 73rd Precinct. Soon after the train departed, a verbal dispute broke out between her and the two suspects who were already present on the train. The altercation quickly turned physical; one suspect pushed and kicked the victim, subsequently causing her to fall and drop her cellphone. While on the ground, the other suspect proceeded to punch her multiple times in the face before taking her phone. The incident has raised concerns about safety on public transportation once again, especially, for those traveling alone.
The NYPD has yet to release descriptions of the suspects, but is calling on witnesses or anyone with information to come forward. In an effort to locate the individuals, the NYPD Crimestoppers took to social media stating, "WANTED FOR A ROBBERY: On Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at approximately 10:50 AM, a 45-year-old female victim boarded a northbound 'L' train on Canarsie Rockaway Parkway train station, in the confines of the NYPD 73 Precinct. During the dispute, one of the unidentified individuals pushed and kicked the victim, causing the victim to fell on the ground and dropped her cell phone. While the victim was on the ground, the second individual punched the victim multiple times in the face and took her phone."
