An electric motorcycle chase in Oak View last week resulted in a serious crash and the arrests of two 18-year-olds on felony charges. According to KTLA, Ventura County Sheriff's deputies attempted to stop the riders of two unregistered motorcycles only to be met with taunting and dangerous antics.
The pair, identified as Adam Zepeda and Angel Ramirez of Oak View, reportedly engaged in reckless behavior, including running red lights and speeding down pedestrian paths. Their antics did not only involve evasive maneuvers, they included vulgar hand gestures and filming the chase on mobile devices, "all while weaving through traffic, popping wheelies and flying down pedestrian paths at speeds that police say exceeded 50 mph," KTLA reported.
The situation escalated when Zepeda crashed his motorcycle into a moving car on Spring Street, resulting in serious injuries. Despite his need for immediate medical attention, he was cited and arrested on multiple charges, including felony evading and reckless driving. Following an investigation, Ramirez was arrested days later, found with items linking him to the chase.
Nixle's news release from the Ventura County Sheriff's Office detailed the charges against Zepeda, including VC 2800.2(a) Evading a Peace Officer with Willful Disregard for Public Safety (Felony), and other misdemeanors and infractions. Due to Zepeda’s inattention and high rate of speed, he collided with a vehicle traveling northbound on Spring Street.
