A tragic incident unfolded in the Midland neighborhood of Pierce County as one person was confirmed deceased following a two-alarm fire at an adult family home. The blaze erupted in the early hours on Friday at a residence situated on the 2100 block of 90th Street East. According to FOX 13 Seattle, Central Pierce Fire & Rescue responded to the emergency with a significant presence, and mutual aid was provided by West Pierce Fire & Rescue and Riverside Fire & Rescue.
The fire led to the displacement of nine other individuals, among whom were six residents, three staff members, and one family member. Initial reports failed to clearly detail how the fire had managed to quickly envelop the home. As firefighters labored to thoroughly extinguish the remaining flames, the Pierce County Fire Marshal's office has been tasked to diligently investigate the cause of the disaster. Despite all efforts, however, a 76-year-old man sadly perished in the fire, as revealed in an interview by Pierce County Sheriff’s Office deputy Carly Cappetto to The News Tribune.
The fire not only claimed a life but also wrought heavy damage upon the adult family home. The public was advised to avoid the vicinity of the incident for safety and to facilitate the operations of the emergency services. A neighbor was reported to have detected the smoke and promptly called 911 before advancing to aid those who managed to escape the initial threat of the fire, as told to KIRO 7. This act of quick thinking may have been crucial in preventing further loss of life.
The name of the 76-year-old victim has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.
