An early morning mishap on Interstate 95 disrupted the typical flow of traffic after a tractor-trailer overturned in the median, affecting both the southbound and northbound lanes near Howard County. According to WMAR2 News, the incident occurred around 7 am today, resulting in the blockage of the two left lanes on southbound I-95 between I-195 and MD-100. As a consequence, commuters were subjected to delays extending back to I-695, with travel times increasing nearly 40 minutes.
The northbound direction was not spared from the ripple effect of the crash, with traffic conditions similarly deteriorating and adding to the morning commute challenges. The northbound I-95 had two left lanes obstructed between MD-100 and I-895, effectively echoing the obstruction on the other side of the median. However, WBALTV reported that by the 8 a.m. hour, a northbound lane was reopened, leaving only the far-left lane closed to traffic.
Notably, the southbound side saw more significant snarls, with two right lanes eventually accommodating the passage of vehicles by the scene of the accident. Emergency responders were present, attending to the situation and working to manage the resultant disruptions. The cameras from the Maryland Department of Transportation captured images of the tractor-trailer on its side near Montgomery Road.
Commuters traveling southbound on I-95 faced extended delays, with travel times from the Baltimore Beltway to the Capital Beltway swelling to as much as 51 minutes, as detailed by WBALTV. Meanwhile, northbound travelers encountered delays around Maryland Route 175.
