Three individuals aboard a Cessna aircraft emerged unscathed after executing an emergency landing near Mukilteo's Lighthouse Park on Sunday evening. The police stated that the plane went down around 5:30 p.m., following the pilot's report of power loss and their subsequent communication with Paine Field air traffic control, during which they revealed an inability to reach the airport, necessitating the impromptu landing, as KING5 reported.
Upon crashing near the water, the Mukilteo Fire Department promptly arrived at the scene to evaluate the passengers, per reports by KIRO 7; confirming that none of them sustained injuries, but after the occupants were evacuated, the aircraft submerged into the waterbody adjacent to the park.
Bystanders did not hesitate to provide aid, with two individuals, Zayda and Mya, featured in KIRO 7's coverage, rushing to the scene; Zayda, a recently certified lifeguard, related how her swift reaction and training played a crucial role in the rescue, "But then everyone started like rushing over and I was like okay I need to run faster," she stated, "And so I ran like really as fast as I can and I was just really hoping that I could help somebody if I needed to." Meanwhile, Mya initially mistook the crashing plane for a boat trying to dock, expressing her disbelief, "These things that you see happen on the news and things like that, but it’s never going to happen in front of your face."
Echoing the sentiments of quick community response, KOMO News reported that the bystanders did indeed enter the water to assist, ensuring the passengers were safe before the plane met its watery end, and as things now stand, the Coast Guard is actively managing the recovery and investigation of the downed aircraft which is situated near the Lighthouse Park boat dock, with the aircraft's descent into the aquatic embrace concluding without physical harm to those on board, the full extent of the environmental impact remains to be seen as the situation continues to unfurl.
