On an unremarkable July morning, the streets of Perris, California, became the focus of an investigation into the theft of fiber optic cables that disrupted local internet service and impacted public safety operations. According to the Riverside Sheriff's Department, deputies responded to an alert on July 15 that cables had been damaged and stolen in the vicinity of Nuevo Road and Pico Avenue, prompting a loss valued at approximately $25,000.

These thefts continued to quickly unravel the fabric of connectivity in their wake, with another attempted theft reported on July 23 near Lakeview Avenue and 11th Street, Nuevo. The persistent efforts of deputies from the Perris Station's Robbery and Burglary Team (RBST) soon to pay off. On July 30, the suspect's vehicle was spotted and stopped at the 22000 block of Alviso Road, where officers found evidence linking the suspect to the crimes.

Arrested was 31-year-old Jordani De La Rosa-Vasquez of Perris, found to have wire consistent with the stolen cables. A subsequent search warrant executed at a related address on Alviso Road uncovered further evidence linking De La Rosa-Vasquez to the incidents. He is now facing charges of grand theft, felony vandalism, and felony damage to utility lines, and is held at the Cois Byrd Detention Center.

The Perris Sheriff's Station remains vigilant in keeping the community safe and underlines the importance of reporting suspicious activity. They stress that by working together, residents can effectively uphold the safety of their neighborhoods. In the wake of these events, anyone with information about the incidents is being encouraged to urgently share it with Investigator Barbee at the Perris Sheriff's Station by calling (951) 210-1000.
