The City College for Municipal Employment (CCME) recently celebrated the graduation of nine City employees from the Surveyor I Upskilling Program, according to an official city announcement. These individuals, who have been working with the Streets Department, have now completed a vital career development initiative aimed at preparing them for more technical positions within Philadelphia's infrastructure.
During the ceremony, welcoming remarks were delivered by Carol de Fries, the Executive Director of the Workforce Development and the Municipal College. She commended the graduates for the considerable amount they had achieved, embarking on a journey to better themselves and the city they serve. Recognized by name, the graduates, one by one, walked to the front to receive their certificates, marking the culmination of their dedication over the past months.
Further reflecting the significance of their achievement, Michelle Brisbon, who has spent over 30 years at the Streets Department, shared her career trajectory with the assembly. She told Philadelphia’s official website, "Her journey through the City’s ranks shaped the leader she is today, and she attributes access to higher education as the tool to getting there." Her experience stands as a testament to the value of programs such as those offered by CCME.
In her address, Chief Administrative Officer Camille Duchaussee emphasized the importance of the graduates' work, which, boasting their foundational nature, underscores a broader commitment to the growth of Philadelphia. According to what she shared, these graduates aren't just students finishing a course—they are skilled workers who bet on themselves, dedicated to ensuring the continuous progression of the city. Their investment in skills and knowledge building symbolizes more than just personal achievement; it represents a greater contribution to the city's future.
