Planned Parenthood has filed a lawsuit to stop a 1985 Nevada law from being enforced. The law, Senate Bill 510, requires doctors to notify parents if an unmarried minor under 18 wants an abortion, as reported by FOX5 Vegas. It was never put into effect due to legal challenges. After the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, two Nevada district attorneys argued the law should now be enforced. Planned Parenthood says the concerns that stopped the law before still exist.
Planned Parenthood Mar Monte and a Nevada-based doctor, identified as Dr. Doe, filed a legal complaint to block Senate Bill 510 from taking effect. The complaint argues the law was previously ruled unconstitutional and should not be brought back.
Senate Bill 510 would require doctors to inform a minor's parents before performing an abortion and includes criminal penalties for noncompliance. The plaintiffs said "forced parental involvement may endanger their emotional and physical well-being, including, for example, by creating threats to their housing security," according to 8 News Now.
