A Reisterstown man, Jamar Brooks, aged 33, has been taken into custody by Maryland State Police in connection with a reported road rage incident on I-695 that erupted into gunfire, according to a recent release from the department. Brooks, who is currently being held without bail, faces charges including attempted first-degree murder and first-degree assault.

The incident in question unfurled on June 16, when troopers received calls about a shooting on the highway near Washington Boulevard; the victim's vehicle had been hit by a shot fired from a Tesla, allegedly operated by Brooks, the bullet perforated the driver's door and embedded itself in the driver's seat although astonishingly the victim was unharmed. Brooks, with a prior conviction, was also charged with illegal possession of a firearm and additional related assault and weapon charges.

In the aftermath of the shooting, the Maryland State Police Highway Gun Crimes Initiative took over the investigation, which would ultimately paint Brooks as the alleged assailant. His arrest on Tuesday was the result of a joint effort between the Maryland State Police Apprehension Team and the U.S. Marshal’s Capital Regional Area Fugitive Task Force. Authorities executed a search warrant at his home, where they discovered and seized a stolen 9mm semi-automatic handgun.

Brooks' detainment comes as Maryland State Police ramp up their crackdown on highway violence. Currently, they continue their pursuit of leads in the unsolved cases involving Delonte Hicks, Charles Marks, and Nyah Hairston, with a call to the community for any pertinent information, which can be shared anonymously by contacting 410-538-1887.
