Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's campaign office in the Bronx faced an act of vandalism earlier today, where unknown individuals splattered the front of the building with red paint. The incident, which occurred just after 12:40 a.m. on Herschell Street, also involved a sign left at the site that read "AOC Funds Genocide in Gaza," as reported by ABC7NY.
CBS News New York notes that the NYPD responded to a 911 call about the vandalism and, crime scene tape cordoned off the area around the Bronx campaign office. Reports indicate that the red paint was not only on a metal security gate but also splattered on the doorway of Ocasio-Cortez's office and the sidewalk below. While the congresswoman has multiple offices within the city, including locations in Hunts Point and Astoria, Queens, it was her Bronx office that was targeted in this specific incident.
While the congresswoman was not in her office at the time of the attack, she was in Plattsburgh yesterday for a town hall meeting with fellow Rep. Paul Tonko, and had scheduled engagements in Queens later today. No arrests have been made in connection with the vandalism, and authorities are continuing with their investigation.
The NYPD is requesting that anyone with any information regarding the incident to please contact the NYPD's Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or, for Spanish speakers, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). Tips can also be submitted through the NYPD website. Ocasio-Cortez's office has yet to release a statement on the matter.
