Border Patrol agents in the Rio Grande Valley Sector made a significant stand against potentially dangerous individuals this past week, with the apprehension of two illegal aliens previously convicted of sex offenses. The arrests took place near the U.S.-Mexico border, highlighting ongoing actions to enforce the law and safeguard communities.
On July 14, McAllen Station agents detained 39-year-old Mateo Pablo-Martin of Guatemala. According to records, Pablo-Martin had faced the gavel of justice back in February 2018, convicted of child molestation by the Riverside Sheriff's Office. His sentence included 170 days in the slammer and a 30-month probation period, as disclosed in a report by U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
In a separate incident, Fort Brown Station agents took David Antonio Varcenas-Aguilar, 45, a Mexican national, into custody near Brownsville, Texas, on July 12. His rap sheet includes a conviction for sexual assault of a child from a June 2009 arrest, leading to a 12-year incarceration.
According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the Rio Grande Valley Sector Chief Patrol Agent Gloria I. Chavez underscored the resolve of her team, stating, "These arrests demonstrate our Border Partrol agents' unwavering commitment to protecting our communities from dangerous individuals." Both Pablo-Martin and Varcenas-Aguilar are now undergoing processing and will face prosecution as per the legal framework set in place for such offenses.
