In a somewhat unusual event for Central Florida, deputies in Orange County pursued an adventurous emu that had escaped from its residence. The incident, reported by WFTV, saw the large flightless bird taking a moment of rest in the shade, flanked by two deputies.
In a photo shared by the Orange County Sheriff's Office, the emu appeared unharmed and needed hydration, an issue quickly remedied by the deputies. While Florida is no stranger to wildlife, the presence of an emu, a bird native to Australia, is enough to slightly and momentarily stir the local ecosystem. According to the WESH report, the bird was successfully reunited with its owners.
Notably, this emu escapade wasn't the first of its kind in the vicinity. Just a few weeks earlier, an emu in neighboring Seminole County had embarked on a more protracted sojourn, eluding capture for over a month before finding its way back home.
