San Antonio's close-knit community was struck by tragedy when the body of Zion Cook, a 21-year-old architecture student, was discovered in the San Antonio River. The Bexar County Medical Examiner confirmed Cook's identity, whose lifeless figure was found by a passerby in a section of the river near the bustling River Walk district, as reported by KTSA.
The circumstances that led to Cook's body resting in the water's murky embrace are yet to be unraveled. He had been reported missing five days before the grim discovery, on June 28. Postmortem examinations had thus far revealed no clear signs of trauma, but the search for continuing, for the cause of his premature silence, according to KSAT.
A statement obtained by KSAT, delivered by Carl D. Lee, head boys basketball coach at Roosevelt High School where Cook was once a student-athlete, spoke of the community's heartache. "Zion was a tremendous student-athlete who participated in multiple sports, including basketball and Track. He was well liked by his peers, loved by his friends, and very respectful to anyone he interacted with. I will always remember is his smile and personality," Lee recalled.
