Baltimore residents in Federal Hill woke up to a string of property damage after a spree of vandalism struck South Baltimore over the weekend. According to WBALTV, Baltimore Police are now handling roughly 35 reports of destruction of property, including several vehicle break-ins along East Montgomery Street. One resident, Amy Klein, told the station that one of her vehicles had "the front passenger window was completely shattered," and another car had the front driver side window tampered with, yet the perpetrator absconded with little more than loose change.
The string of crimes didn't stop at car windows. Over at Facci Ristorante on Light Street, burglars didn't just break the window but managed to steal several items. A similar incident occurred at Papa John's on South Hanover Street, where the front glass was also found shattered. Alyssa Wilson, the general manager at the site, described the disarray to WBALTV as "soda spilled over" and glass everywhere. She considered it a "blessing" that nobody was here, and "nothing was stolen."
With the incidents potentially connected, due to the similarities in execution and proximity, and suspects still at large, the Baltimore Police have yet to make an arrest.
Additional reports of property damage continued to appear, as reported by FOX Baltimore's coverage, which stated that police are still investigating the full extent of the damage, and the total number of incidents may rise. The vandalism was first reported around 9:16 a.m. near the intersection of East Montgomery Street and William Street, and police confirmed 35 incidents by 3:00 p.m. the same day. As more information comes to light, Federal Hill residents are hoping for quick responses and resolution from local authorities.
