A structure fire broke out in Sun Valley on Thursday, leading to a standoff with law enforcement. The Washoe County Sheriff's Office said Scott Sistrunk confronted deputies with a 2×4 while a fire burned an outbuilding on his property.

At about 8:30 a.m., fire and law enforcement responded to a fire where a resident, identified as Sistrunk, reportedly refused to leave his home or follow commands. The Washoe County Sheriff's Office stated, "Upon arrival, fire and law enforcement personnel encountered a combative resident believed to be armed." A K-9 unit was used to subdue Sistrunk so firefighters could respond to the fire. He was taken into custody and charged with resisting a public officer with a deadly weapon, assault with a deadly weapon on a first responder, mistreating a police animal, and interfering with a firefighter. The Washoe County Sheriff's Office said "additional charges may be filed pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation into the fire."

The Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District and the Nevada State Police worked together to contain a fire, with no injuries reported among deputies, fire crews, or the public. According to the Washoe County Sheriff's Office on their Facebook page, "The Washoe County Sheriff's Office thanks the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District for their swift response in containing the fire and preventing further damage." The agency also acknowledged the Nevada State Police for their assistance. The investigation is ongoing.
