In a tragic turn of events, a 52-year-old bicyclist lost his life in a hit-and-run incident in Sun Valley, as reported by KTLA. The Los Angeles Police Department has disclosed that on Monday, just before 11 p.m., the man was pedaling his bike across Lankershim Boulevard and was fatally struck by a white pickup truck heading south. This was outside of a marked crosswalk, leading to an urgent appeal for public assistance in locating the driver.
The severity of the event was further highlighted by descriptions from witnesses who recounted to FOXLA, detailing the incident as "violent," saying the cyclist was thrown "10 or 15 feet in the air" and noted he was bleeding from the back of his head after the impact, with a friend who was riding nearby attempting CPR before the arrival of emergency services. Despite rapid transport to a local trauma center by the Los Angeles Fire Department, the victim was pronounced dead, his identity withheld pending the notification of next of kin.
Meanwhile, LAPD's Valley Traffic Detectives have been diligent in their investigative efforts. They are reaching out to the community for any lead that could help bring the suspect to justice, alongside the offer of a $50,000 reward from the city's Hit-and-Run Reward Program Trust Fund for information that leads to an arrest or civil compromise regarding the fugitive driver.
The suspect's vehicle has been described as a silver four-door truck with a bed, tinted windows, and front-end damage as described by a witness interviewed by FOXLA; however, the LAPD has yet to release an official vehicle description and continues their quest for the culprit, urging anyone with information about this devastating incident to contact Detectives Otrosina or Martinez at the numbers provided in the LAPD release or to leave an anonymous tip using the "P3 Tips" mobile application or reaching out to L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers.
