A large brush fire that erupted near Jack Smith Memorial Park in Needles, California, has been traced back to an individual authorities have since detained. Deputies from the Colorado River Station/Needles Police Department were alerted to the scene on Saturday at approximately 7:26 p.m., having to navigate through threats of wild flames which torched the state's land, putting local emergency strategies to the test.
The suspect, identified as 38-year-old transient Shawn Brown, was found near a homeless encampment within the dense brush close to the river. Officials have stated that Brown was apprehended early Sunday morning, around 3:44 a.m. In what appears to have quickly become an extensive inquiry, Brown was detained and interviewed at the Colorado River Station, where he was determined to have started the fire unlawfully.
Following the investigation, authorities arrested Brown on charges of recklessly causing a fire, a violation of PC 452(C). He was then transported to the Colorado River Station jail for booking. As of now, Brown remains in custody, with his bail set at $30,000, awaiting a scheduled court hearing to face the consequences of his alleged actions.
