On a quiet Saturday night, the Santa Clarita Valley found itself disturbed by the actions of two out-of-town men intent on taking what was not theirs. According to a Facebook post by the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station, the pair entered a sporting goods store on the 26500 block of Carl Boyer Drive in Canyon Country and shoplifted merchandise valued at over $1,000.
The store's vigilant staff quickly provided detailed descriptions of the suspects and their getaway vehicle to dispatchers, enabling SCV Sheriff's deputies to swiftly stop the vehicle before it could reach the freeway. Their timeliness allowed them to quickly respond, confronting the would-be thieves in the act of their escape. The suspects, a 32-year-old male from Parker, AZ, and a 38-year-old male from Van Nuys, CA, were subsequently apprehended and faced charges reflective of their actions.
Charges laid against them included felony grand theft and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. As reported by the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's post, both men were transported to, and booked at, the local Sheriff’s Station jail. Their attempt at shoplifting ended with them being held in custody—facing the stark reality that their actions have consequences without the option of bail.
"If you want to shop in SCV, stealing here just isn’t free. Pay for your things, do what’s right. We’re always ready to respond quickly to protect our community from crime," the Sheriff's Station warned through their social media statement. This message suggests that regardless of where you come from, the same rules apply and are vigilantly upheld. The suspects now must prepare to face the justice system, their attempt to evade honesty leaving them detained, awaiting the due process of law.
