Residents of Tampa FL can expect to see a mix of sunshine and thunderstorms as they navigate through the forthcoming week, according to the National Weather Service. With temperatures soaring high, the heat index is set to hit potentially dangerous levels, peaking at values that could reach as high as 106 degrees Fahrenheit. It’s advisable to stay hydrated and seek shade during peak heat periods.
While today might start with partly cloudy skies and a comfortable 82 degrees Fahrenheit in the early morning, the NWS forecasts "scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly between 2pm and 5pm." Despite the high likelihood of precipitation in the afternoons, the nights appear to be much clearer. The service advises that tonight’s chance of rain will drop significantly, suggesting only a 10% chance of "isolated showers and thunderstorms before 8pm."
The detailed forecast by NWS also indicates an uninterrupted pattern of scattered afternoon thunderstorms stretching into the early part of next week. The daytime will mainly be sunny and hot, with consistently high temperatures in the mid-90s. While nights shall generally bring mostly clear skies, the temperatures will modestly dip to the high 70s for lows.
With heat indices expected to occasionally exceed the century mark, the threat of heat-related illnesses becomes a significant concern. The NWS has put out guidance to alert the public to take necessary precautions. The recommended measures include drinking more fluids, staying in an air-conditioned room, staying out of the sun, and checking up on relatives and neighbors. There is also a special emphasis on not leaving young children and pets unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.
