Last night on a Harlem street, a 30-year-old man sustained a gunshot wound and a teenager was taken into custody following a shootout involving two gunmen. The incident, unfolding before 6:30 p.m. on Lenox Avenue, involved assailants wielding firearms—one on a kick scooter and another on a Citi Bike, according to ABC 7 New York.

The man was shot in the right thigh; his injury was not life-threatening. He was transported to Mount Sinai Morningside in stable condition after EMS applied a tourniquet to control the bleeding. Meanwhile, the armed teenager on the scooter was pursued by police officers stationed nearby. After discarding the scooter and attempting to flee on foot, the teen was confronted by an officer who fired a warning shot when he refused to drop his weapon, as AMNY reports.

Panic broke out among diners at a local restaurant who heard the initial gunshots and saw the police response. Trice Babii Thompson, a witness at the restaurant, told ABC 7 New York, "We don't know where those bullets are going, and that's the problem."

After the officer shot at him, the 15-year-old suspect eventually surrendered and was found to be in possession of a 9 mm handgun. Charged with attempted murder among several other counts. The fellow shooter—the one who had fled on the Citi Bike—is still at large, and authorities are continuing their pursuit, as reported by AMNY.

As the investigation proceeds, law enforcement officials are calling for public assistance.
