A decade of investigations by the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office has culminated in a tenth arrest in the murder case of 14-year-old Micah Thomas. Nearly a year and a half after the tragic event, 18-year-old Quanterria Bennett is facing charges, joining nine others who have already been ensnared in the legal aftermath of the teenager's death.
On New Year's Day in 2024, officers responded to a call at a residence in the Sherwood Forest neighborhood where Thomas was found deceased. An autopsy later confirmed that homicide was the cause, leading to a widespread and determined effort by law enforcement to track down all involved. The suspects range in age from 17 to 30, with the names of those charged made available via JSO's announcement. Alongside Bennett, those charged include Isaiah Conner (24), Lamaya Gillis (21), Rian Brown (17), J’Nethen Jackson (21), William Middleton (24), Antonio Thornton (20), Roderick Brunson (19), Emanuel Cuff (24), and Nailah Douglas (30).
Thomas' mother expressed deep gratitude for the dedication displayed by Detective Henry Rivers in pursuing justice for her son. In a statement given to a local news outlet, she said, "My family and I would like to thank Detective Henry Rivers for his incredible dedication, hard work, and relentless pursuit of justice for my son, Micah Thomas’ case. Your effort led to 10 arrests, and we’re truly grateful.” This sentiment underscores the laborious process that each case often entails and the comfort that comes with steps taken towards closure, as detailed by the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office has pledged to continue cooperation with the State Attorney’s Office ensuring that all those charged in Thomas' death are held to account.
