Following the recent widespread flooding across Texas, Governor Greg Abbott, in partnership with the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC), has announced the launch of the Texas Flooding Emotional Support Line. This new statewide service offers 24/7 crisis counseling for residents affected by the disaster. The support line is available free of charge and is intended to assist Texans dealing with the emotional impact of the flooding.

About the initiative, "The State of Texas continues working to ensure that Texans hardest hit by these devastating floods have the resources and support they need, and that includes mental health support," Governor Abbott said in a press release. Texans impacted by the recent flooding now have access to support as they begin to recover from the emotional effects of the disaster. Survivors, family members, first responders, and others affected can call 833-812-2480 to speak with trained professionals equipped to help navigate the emotional challenges that often follow such events.

The establishment of this support line comes in direct response to the overwhelming physical and mental toll that calamities like floods can impose. Michelle Alletto, HHSC chief program and services officer, highlighted the impact such events can have, stating to the Governor's office, "The physical and emotional effects from a natural disaster are profound, and can have lasting effects on hearts, minds and communities."

The crisis counseling services are designed to provide emotional support while also assisting individuals in identifying recovery options and accessing referrals to other relevant programs. The service aims to support coping and recovery efforts while maintaining confidentiality to ensure privacy. More information on mental health resources can be found on the Disaster Behavioral Health Services page.
