Drivers in Winnemucca should expect delays starting July 28 as road work gets underway. The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) will be installing new pedestrian safety features, including flashing crosswalk beacons. Some lanes and sidewalks will be closed during the project, so plan for extra travel time.

Starting July 28, drivers in Winnemucca should expect short-term road and sidewalk closures on Winnemucca Boulevard and Fourth Street, mostly on weekdays between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., according to NDOT. Some evening or overnight closures are also possible. Closures could last up to 15 minutes at a time while crews install new pedestrian signals. The work is expected to continue into early fall.

The Nevada Department of Transportation is installing rapid flashing pedestrian beacons, upgraded lighting, and new pedestrian ramps at several intersections in Winnemucca. The safety improvements target areas with high foot traffic between hotels, restaurants, and businesses. Intersections affected include West Winnemucca Boulevard at West Fourth Street and Lay Street, as well as East Winnemucca Boulevard at Haskell Street and Fairgrounds Road.

NDOT advises drivers to plan for minor delays and use caution when traveling through construction zones. The pedestrian safety upgrades aim to improve travel conditions near hotels, restaurants, and businesses. "The improvements will help enhance safety for pedestrians traveling between hotels, restaurants, businesses, and more," NDOT said in a statement.
