
Union County's tech team has scored again, cementing its position as a trailblazer in digital innovation among mid-sized U.S. counties. For the seventh year running, the county's Information Technology department has been heralded with a national accolade, coming in at seventh in the 2025 Digital Counties Survey—a yardstick for measuring tech excellence across government bodies. This recognition, conferred by the Center for Digital Government (CDG) and the National Association of Counties (NACo), reflects the county's dedication to enhancing services through cutting-edge digital initiatives.
The survey assesses U.S. counties on varied parameters including service delivery efficiency, data-informed decision-making, cybersecurity toughness, and the application of emergent technologies, Union County, which recently graduated to the 250,000-499,999 population bracket, maintained its streak of placing within the top ten each year while facing off against equivalent-sized contenders—it’s an impressive showcase of the locality's ongoing commitment towards upping its digital game.
"Receiving this honor again is a reflection of our ongoing commitment to finding easy and more efficient ways to best serve the County through innovative technology," said Jon Amelio, IT Director, as reported by Union County's official news release. The Union County IT staff, collaborating with different county departments, shared updates on the technological advances achieved over the past year, detailing how they're beefing up cybersecurity and refining digital public interactions.
John Matelski, Executive Director of the Center for Digital Government, extolled the winners stating, "This year’s Digital Counties Survey winners exemplify a strong commitment to innovation, excellence in digital government, and public service", according to the official announcement, their efforts are seen as beacon, setting national benchmarks and acting as an inspirator for counties nationwide embarking on a journey towards digital governance transformation.
