The Town of Wake Forest, in a collaborative effort with KCI Associates, is setting its sights on alleviating the stormwater woes that downtown residents and businesses face. The focus is squarely on developing strategies to manage runoff and minimize flooding, and concurrently, to discern opportunities where green infrastructure could play a role in beautifying and improving the downtown area's functionality.
According to the Town’s announcement, an open house meeting is slated for today, where the public is encouraged to engage from 8:30-9:30 a.m. The setting for this dialogue is the Ground Floor Meeting Room at Town Hall, accessible through the Taylor Street entrance. This session is designed to be informative and interactive, with no formal presentation taking place. Instead, community members can pop in at any time during the allotted hour to delve into the study's findings, pose questions, and express their thoughts.
The open house is just one avenue for public participation; residents also have the option to weigh in digitally. A web-based survey is currently open for input, providing a platform for those who may not be able to attend in person to have a voice in the process. The survey, available on the Town's website, will remain open until 5 p.m. on August 15.
Staff from the Town and affiliate consultants from KCI Associates will be in attendance at the Tuesday meeting, ready to discuss potential solutions and field questions from the community. With issues of climate change and urban infrastructure at the forefront of civic discourse, the study's goal is to pivot towards sustainable practices that could mitigate environmental impacts while simultaneously enhancing the quaint charm of Downtown Wake Forest.
