The quest for justice in the wake of tragedy on 7th Street intensifies, as authorities increase the reward for information leading to an arrest. The Metropolitan Police Department, in coordination with the FBI Washington Field Office, has upped the bounty to $40,000 for details that can solve the homicide of 21-year-old Eric Tarpinian-Jachym. Last Monday, June 30, Tarpinian-Jachym, an intern for the U.S. House of Representatives, was struck by gunfire amidst what appears to be a targeted attack on another group.
According to the MPD's announcement, the violent incident took place last Monday night, with officers responding to the scene around 10:28 p.m. Along with Tarpinian-Jachym, who later died at the hospital, an adult woman and a teenage boy suffered non-life-threatening injuries in a shooting that has shaken the community. Investigations suggest that the assailants exited their vehicle and unleashed a barrage of bullets on the 1200 block of 7th Street, NW, though it appears Tarpinian-Jachym was not their intended mark.
The recovered suspect vehicle marks a turning point in the ongoing inquiry, but the culprits remain at large. The reward increase signals an urgency in apprehending those responsible, with the MPD's promise of up to $25,000 now bolstered by an additional $15,000 pledge from the FBI.
Detectives are urging anyone with knowledge of the incident to come forward, stressing the potential difference a single piece of information can make. "The decedent has been identified as 21-year-old Eric Tarpinian-Jachym, of Granby, Massachusetts," revealed the MPD.
