Yesterday morning, a traffic stop in Carroll County escalated into a pursuit and subsequent crashes, resulting in injuries to two Westminster City Police officers. According to the Carroll County Sheriff's Office, deputies saw a gray Nissan sedan speeding at around 12:02 a.m. near the intersection of Maryland Route 27 and Maryland Route 482. The vehicle, driven by 19-year-old Braylon Roberts of Pennsylvania, initially fled from the attempted stop. WBALTV reported that Westminster police later located the Nissan on Gentry Court, where it rammed into their patrol vehicles and a sheriff's deputy's vehicle.
In their pursuit to apprehend the suspects, after locating the car, the officers were taken to a local hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries they sustained in the crash. In the chaos, Roberts and the three passengers, including a juvenile, attempted to flee on foot, with authorities capturing the man and two others shortly afterward. As reported by WMAR2News, Roberts was charged with three counts of first-degree assault, reckless endangerment in the second degree, and multiple traffic violations following his detainment at Carroll County Central Booking.
All injured parties were provided medical attention, with the officers being released from Carroll Hospital after treatment. The sheriff's office stated that Roberts also required an evaluation at the hospital before his booking. Meanwhile, the juvenile involved was released after consultation with the Maryland Department of Juvenile Services.
