The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is now accepting applications for the Hunter Recruitment, Retention, and Reactivation (R3) Grant Program. The program is designed to support efforts focused on hunting education, conservation, and outdoor engagement.

The program offers a total of $75,000 in grant funding to support initiatives that promote and teach safe, ethical hunting practices. It emphasizes the development of hunting-related outdoor skills aimed at increasing engagement with nature. Previous grant recipients have used the funds for projects such as archery range improvements, support for hunting expos, and the purchase of outdoor wheelchairs for public use, according to a release by Wisconsin DNR.

This program stands out for its inclusive approach, aiming to engage not only experienced hunters but also individuals with an interest in exploring the outdoors. It supports a broader goal of promoting conservation through active participation and education.

Applications are due by 11:59 p.m. on September 15. Projects are expected to begin approximately one year after the application deadline. Grants of up to $25,000 are available and may be awarded to individuals, community-based organizations, universities, and schools.

Additionally, the program operates on a reimbursement basis, with funds distributed after project expenses have been incurred. It is supported through sub-awards of Pittman-Robertson Act funds, which are federally allocated for wildlife conservation and hunter education. The funding is intended to support projects that contribute to local economies and resource management through hunting-related activities.
