According to a recent post from the Wisconsin DNR's Facebook, these pilots have a dual-focus mission: indulging in the breathtaking aerial views while ensuring the state's natural resources are safeguarded – a balance between duty and delight.
It's all about perspective, says Paul Christensen, DNR Aeronautics section manager. From high above land, while most of us are rubber-necking at ground level, these pilots gauge the grand scope of the state's ecological landscape. "The beauty is more specific from the ground – individual trees and leaves, the interaction between the water and the woods. But from the air, you see the magnitude of it all, and how everything…fits into the big picture," Christensen described the experience to the Wisconsin Natural Resources magazine, as per the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Facebook post. On the ground you might crick your neck trying to take it all in, but up there, it's a whole different ballgame.
