Yolo County is providing $171,240 through the Community Climate Action Fund to support eight local organizations. These groups will carry out projects that align with the county’s Climate Action and Adaptation Plan, which focuses on lowering greenhouse gas emissions and improving climate resilience in the area, as reported by the Yolo County.
The selection process involved reviewing many applications to find those that matched the goals of the Climate Action and Adaptation Plan. The chosen projects include efforts like habitat restoration and sustainable farming. De Colores Resource Center will create the Yolo Farmworker Partnership, and Catholic Charities of Yolo-Solano will offer disaster education through its Prepared Together project. Other groups receiving funding are the Center for Land-Based Learning, Breathe California Sacramento Region, Yolo Arts Council, Yolo Food Bank, and the Davis Bike Campaign. Funding will begin this summer, according to the Yolo County.
Kristen Wraithwall, Sustainability Manager for Yolo County, said, "These projects demonstrate the power of community-led climate action," and, "By investing in local organizations that are already trusted in their communities, we’re not only advancing our ambitious climate goals—we’re also building lasting partnerships that center equity and improve resilience in Yolo County." The county’s Climate Action and Adaptation Plan, adopted in late 2024, aims to make Yolo County carbon negative by 2030 and prepare for extreme heat, wildfires, and flooding. The Community Climate Action Fund supports local projects that help carry out the Climate Action and Adaptation Plan. Details are available on the Yolo County website or through the Sustainability Division.
