Over the course of a yearlong probe into illegal drug trafficking in Bartow, Florida, the Polk County Sheriff's Office (PCSO) has charged 32 suspects in what has been named "Operation Capital City Crack Down." The intensive investigation drew on the cooperative efforts of the PCSO Tactical Drug Unit, Organized Crime Unit, and the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) Task Force, beginning in August 2024. A concerted endeavor involved the State Attorney’s Office, Homeland Security Investigations, U.S. Border Patrol, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, United States Postal Inspection Service, the Medical Examiner’s Office, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Bartow Police Department, and the Auburndale Police Department, as detailed in a press release by the PCSO.
Following the arrest of eight individuals linked to the operation, who served warrants across Polk County and one in Orange County, the scope of the operation's success became clear. Key figures in the trafficking ring—Nathaniel “Nate” Donald, Bryan “B” Myric, and Isaiah “Bubba” Donald—were among the 32 brought into custody. Myrick, having a cocaine trafficking history leading back to a 2021 prison release, was highlighted in the operation. An indictment for First Degree Murder was also brought against Troy Walker, a supplier involved in a deadly transaction, linked to the cocaine toxicity death of Irene Anderson, wrapped in the consequences of these dark trades in September 2024.
In a statement obtained by the PCSO, Sheriff Grady Judd encapsulated the significance of their work, "This investigation shows exactly how dangerous and far-reaching these drug trafficking networks have become. We’re not just talking about illegal narcotics—we’re talking about deadly fentanyl, firearms in the hands of convicted felons, and a supplier now charged with murder. Thanks to the relentless work of our detectives and partner agencies, 32 suspects are off the streets and this criminal organization has been dismantled." The total haul from the bust added up to more than just a significant drug seizure; it included $7,016 in cash, four firearms, and various drugs totaling a street value of $150,000.
The list of seized narcotics paints a chilling portrait of the drug landscape in Bartow: 22 lbs. of marijuana, 26.72 grams of Fentanyl - capable of killing over 13,000 individuals, 1.5 lbs. each of powder and crack cocaine, ½ lb. of methamphetamine, 48 opioid pills, including hydrocodone and oxycodone, and sizable amounts of MDMA (Ecstasy) and Ketamine. The sheriffs noted that one of the suspects was an undocumented individual from Venezuela, who is now subject to investigation by Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. Having charged suspects with 554 previous felonies and 394 misdemeanors among them, this operation underscores the tenacity and complexity of combating drug proliferation in our communities.
