In a heartfelt show of support, the 9th Annual Justin Terney Memorial Poker Run has, yet again, extended its generosity with a significant donation to the Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office in Oklahoma. According to an update posted by the Pottawatomie County Sheriff's Office Facebook page, the event recently contributed $4,500 to local law enforcement initiatives.
The poker run, steered by Deputy Jesse McCord since its inception, not only commemorates the memory of the fallen officer, Justin Terney, but also supports two causes close to his heart: a scholarship fund for Tecumseh High School students, and the Sheriff’s Office K9 Program. The latter is particularly poignant, as Justin had hoped his own dog, Onyx, would one day serve the community at his side. Despite his untimely passing, Onyx did become a part of the force, symbolizing the realisation of Justin’s aspirations, as reported by the Pottawatomie County Sheriff's Office.
Over the course of nine years, the event has amassed more than $50,000, marking an enduring tribute to Justin’s ideals of service and public safety. The announcement on social media reflects a community rooted in gratitude, acknowledging the many contributors who help keep Justin’s spirit influential through their continuous support. The Pottawatomie County Sheriff's Office remarked on the significance of the occasion, stating, “We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who supports this event, and to those who help us keep Justin’s spirit alive—both in the community and in the work we do every day.”
