Yesterday morning, a collision occurred between a semi-truck and an Amish buggy in Beaverton Township, resulting in injuries for a 61-year-old Amish woman. The Gladwin County Sheriff's Office indicated that the accident happened around 7:40 a.m. on Beaverton Road just west of South Bard Road with the buggy, which was towing another unoccupied buggy, being struck from behind by the truck, as reported by CBS News Detroit.

Both the semi-truck and the buggy were traveling eastbound at the time of the incident. According to accounts from ABC12, the driver of the semi, a 45-year-old man from Hersey, Michigan, did not suffer any injuries, but the 61-year-old woman was transported to the MyMichigan Medical Center in Gladwin for treatment of her non-life-threatening injuries; however, no information was given on the condition of the horse pulling the buggy. A 17-year-old Amish boy who was in the buggy with the injured woman also reportedly remained unharmed.

The semi-truck driver was cited with a traffic violation and is expected to appear at the Gladwin County District Court to address the citation, in which specifics were not disclosed, as noted by Mid Michigan Now. This particular crash comes as the second such incident in Gladwin County in August, and follows two other major crashes earlier in the month in other counties that resulted in seven Amish fatalities, bringing to the forefront concerns over the safety of Amish communities on roadways shared with modern vehicles.
