In observance of Labor Day, a slew of services and facilities in Arlington will hit pause on September 1, giving many workers a well-deserved break. According to the City of Arlington, this includes the temporary shutdown of city hall, the municipal court, and the suspension of all public library operations, save for the East Library and Recreation Center, which will maintain limited hours from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The regular rhythm of waste removal will also skip a beat as there will be no garbage and recycling collection on the holiday, meaning residents will need to adjust their curbside routines, setting out bins a day later than their typical schedule, which is a minor inconvenience but something to keep in mind to avoid trash pile-ups, and residential garbage and recycling collections will promptly return to their normal schedules on Monday, Sept. 8. Crucially, some outdoor and recreational services remain open for those looking to capitalize on the holiday leisure, with select recreation centers and golf courses keeping the welcome mat out for part of the day.
Notably, Arlington's on-demand transportation services will keep rolling, albeit with limited hours—ACTIV will be active from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., ensuring residents seeking mobility can still find it, while the Arlington Tennis Center and an array of golf courses remain options for those looking to swing into the holiday spirit.
