On January 31, a tragic incident occurred within the walls of a Baltimore courthouse, leading to a man's death. The Attorney General of Maryland, Anthony Brown, has confirmed there will be no charges filed against the officers involved, as reported by FOX Baltimore.
The incident started when Garry Wright Jr., aged 35, entered the Baltimore City Eastside District Courthouse and, while near the entrance, pulled out a gun and aimed it at himself, the situation escalated when bailiffs, attempting to manage the scenario, commanded Wright to drop his weapon but with his mind already swayed Wright chose instead to discharge the firearm at his head, as he did an officer, detailed as Gary Brown by WMAR-2 News, shot at Wright's leg.
Medical aid was quickly applied to Wright; however, the self-inflicted gunshot was fatal, and he was later pronounced dead at a local hospital, with an autopsy report confirming the cause of death as a gunshot wound to the head.
The investigative process, led by the Attorney General's Independent Investigations Division (IID), began immediately and concluded last Tuesday, after which no charges against the responding officers were made public the Office of the Attorney General, evaluating all evidence, determined "that the subject special officer did not commit a crime under Maryland law," as described by WMAR-2 News.
