On a sobering note for the Baltimore community, Dandre Woods-Bethel was handed a severe sentence for the 2020 double murder in Clifton Park. According to the Office of the State's Attorney for Baltimore City, Woods-Bethel received two consecutive life sentences plus 28 years for the shooting deaths of Michelle Green and Julie Rice, and the attempted murder of three other women.
Assistant State’s Attorney Victoria Yeager, who prosecuted this case, saw a five-year legal battle culminate in this outcome. State’s Attorney Ivan J. Bates praised the efforts made to bring the case to a close, stating via the Office of the State's Attorney for Baltimore City, "Ensuring that this defendant is never able to threaten and kill more victims after five years of legal battling is a testament to the Baltimore Police Department's and Assistant State's Attorney Yeager's tenacity and perseverance."
The tragic events unfolded on September 12, 2020, when Woods-Bethel fired shots at a group of women gathered on the porch of a home in the 2800 block of Clifton Park Terrace. The Baltimore Police Department responded promptly to the reports of gunfire, discovering Green and Rice fatally wounded. In a dark twist, after being arrested at the scene, Woods-Bethel made incriminating statements while alone in an interview room, unknowingly recorded and later used against him. "I should have used hollow points", and, "I didn't mean to hurt them", were some of the statements he uttered, as detailed by the same press release.
The crime scene provided evidence that would ultimately shape the case, with four 9mm luger shell casings, a projectile, and a cellphone discovered by the BPD's Mobile Crime Lab.
