The Baltimore Police Department has initiated a new approach to improve safety and maintain the quality of life in the city's buzzing entertainment districts. Officially launched on August 10, the Entertainment District Unit (EDU) focuses on high-visibility patrols and community engagement to tackle various issues that arise in areas known for their vibrant nightlife.

Designed to serve as a specialized addition to standard patrolling efforts, the new unit aims to be more than just a tool for enforcement. Stations in busy hubs like the Inner Harbor, Federal Hill, Harbor Point, and Fells Point, the team intends to expand their reach to Canton Square, as well as the vicinity of the Casino and Baltimore stadiums, according to the official statement by the Baltimore Police Department.

"The Entertainment District Unit is about more than just enforcement, it’s about creating safe, welcoming spaces where people can enjoy all the great things that Baltimore has to offer," Police Commissioner Richard Worley said in the statement, as detailed by the Baltimore Police Department news release. With tasks ranging from parking and traffic enforcement to seizing illegal firearms and engaging with the community, the EDU has a broad mandate aimed at improving the entertainment areas' safety and livability.
