In light of a power plant disruption, Baltimore Gas and Electric (BGE) is calling for its customers to adopt energy conservation measures to avert possible blackouts. As detailed in a report from FOX Baltimore, an unexpected outage at a plant integral to BGE's electric grid occurred this morning. The company is liaising with the facility’s owner to expedite repairs, maintaining focus on safety and speed.
PJM Interconnection is currently evaluating the regional power landscape to ensure supply can meet the immediate customer demand, "a critical power plant [is] experiencing an unplanned disconnection from the BGE electric system," WMAR-2 News reported. BGE has suggested various strategies for its customers to mitigate energy use, including adjusting thermostats, utilizing fans, drawing blinds, postponing the use of heat-generating appliances like ovens and dishwashers, and switching off superfluous devices and appliances.
Additionally, customers are advised to prepare for potential outages, by charging devices, having a supply of bottled water and non-perishable foods at hand, and owning flashlights with fresh batteries, especially for those reliant on refrigeration for medication or power for medical devices, they should arrange alternatives if outages linger.
