The Bay View Community Center (BVCC) in the heart of Milwaukee is set to receive a $60,000 boost from the city for its Commercial Kitchen Entrepreneur Support Program, aiming to help local food entrepreneurs overcome the obstacles they face in starting their businesses. Particularly, the program focuses on providing assistance to those grappling with language barriers.
According to a statement obtained by the City of Milwaukee news release, 14th District Alderwoman Marina Dimitrijevic remarked, this funding is much more than just an allocation of dollars. It's about the BVCC’s mission of service, reaching out a hand to those in Bay View and beyond. Speaking to their development initiatives, Dimitrijevic highlighted the center's accomplishments in expanding a commercial kitchen space intended to support the entrepreneurial spirit in the culinary sector.
The BVCC, established for its efforts in creating opportunities and enhancing quality of life through various programs, has now found additional support from the city. The funds are part of a broader $2.05 million package recommended by the Common Council for Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) endorsements.
Diana Billstrom, the BVCC's Executive Director, told officials, “This funding is more than just an investment in a program, it’s an investment in people,” as mentioned on the City of Milwaukee news release. The BVCC has been pivotal to locals facing economic hardships, adding yet another feather in its cap by focusing on aiding budding food businesses and giving them the necessary tools to make a mark on the city’s economy.
