The Third District Fire Company in Bristol Township is mourning the death of veteran member Ed Margavich, who died from injuries sustained during a firefighting operation. Margavich, 80, had more than six decades of service. A memorial has been set up outside the fire company’s station on Harrison Street for the public to pay respects, LevittownNow.com reports.
Earlier this month, a van was intentionally set on fire on the 700 block of Cedar Avenue in Croydon, according to 6abc Action News. The fire spread to a nearby house and remains under investigation as arson.
CBS News Philadelphia reports that Margavich was performing traffic control at the scene and had returned to the firehouse to collect cones when he fell and broke his femur. He first joined the fire company at age 16 and went on to serve as fire chief and fire police captain.
The firehouse has placed purple and black bunting, a lowered American flag, and candles at his memorial. His helmet and coat are also displayed. Funeral arrangements are being made.
